Course Information
Description A foundation studio course exploring drawing with emphasis on descriptive, expressive and conceptual approaches. Students will learn to see and interpret a variety of subjects while using diverse materials and techniques which promote the appreciation of cultural expression. Course work will facilitate a dialogue in which students will engage in critical analysis and begin to develop their understanding of drawing as a discipline.
Required Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will: Apply art terminology as it specifically relates to works of art. Demonstrate knowledge of art elements and principles of design. Differentiate between the processes and materials used in the production of various works of art. Critically interpret and evaluate works of art. Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of arts on culture.
Core Objectives Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and visual communication. Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions. Teamwork: Students will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal and consider different points of view. Midterm group drawing assignment – class picks 4 subjects, 4 emotions, and 4 cultures. Each student will pick 1 of the four subjects, emotions, and cultures and try to represent them in their Midterm drawing. Then during Midterm critique, class will try to guess what subject, emotion, and culture artist represented.

Final Group Drawing project – the class picks a single subject and 4 emotions. Each student choses 1 of the four emotions and represents that emotion in their final drawing.

COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status.
